Givenchy L’Interdit was originally created by Hubert de Givenchy for Audrey Hepburn in 1947. Hepburn was Givenchy’s muse and their close relationship led to the creation of a ‘forbidden’ perfume; a fragrance made just for her which she said shouldn’t be shared with anyone else.
Givenchy did share it with the world though, creating L’interdit (which mean’s forbidden in French).
Givenchy L’interdit Eau de Parfum
The modern version of Givenchy L’interdit Eau de Parfum was released in 2018 and was an instant hit.
Givenchy L’interdit is a strong white floral; with jasmine, orange blossom and plenty of tuberose.
As the fragrance dries down a soft ambroxan, patchouli and vetiver comes through, helping the fragrance last for hours.
There is a hint of pear which softens the white florals from the beginning, creating a classy scent which is hard to ignore.
Givenchy L’interdit could be worn any time of year and any time of day; its universal.
Givenchy L’interdit Eau de Toilette
Givenchy L’interdit Eau de Toilette is a lighter take on the original.
Tuberose remains the main note, along with a soft orange blossom, but the jasmine and ambroxan have been replaced by a soft musk.
Instead of a pear top note there is a hint of a poppy scent.
Overall this fragrance is a completely floral delight, but being less concentrated than the original you will only get a few hours of lasting power from it.
Givenchy L’interdit Le Edition Couture
There have been two limited edition versions of L’interdit. In 2019 and 2020 Givenchy L’interdit Le Edition Couture were released. These contain the original Givenchy L’interdit Eau de Parfum, only the bottle is different.
After a limited edition bottle has been out for a while you can often find it reduced; this can be a cheaper way of getting the original Givenchy L’interdit Eau de Parfum fragrance for less.
Givenchy L’interdit Édition Millésime
Givenchy L’Interdit Édition Millésime is one of my favourites in the range, and one a personally prefer to the original.
Givenchy L’Interdit Édition Millésime has the signature Givenchy L’interdit scent but with a twist.
There is a bitter orange which comes across straight away in the top note. This is then complimented by orange blossom and neroli, with the signature tuberose coming through after a few minutes.
The base has a soft almond fragrance note which is subtle but adds a slightly sweet warm note.
This is an Eau de Parfum and so can be relied upon to last. The orange notes added to it make it fresher than the original; perfect for summertime.
Givenchy L’interdit Intense
Givenchy L’Interdit Intense is my favourite in the range. Ideal for winter this is a super cosy interpretation of L’interdit.
Givenchy L’Interdit Intense takes the signature tuberose scent of the original and adds an unusual sesame note. This creates a unique warmth to the perfume which I find quite addictive.
The vanilla from the original is much more prominent, whereas the patchouli is less noticeable.
This is an intense perfume so it’s stronger than an Eau de Parfum and does really last.
Givenchy L’interdit Rouge
Givenchy L’Interdit Rouge is the latest edition to the range.
This fiery perfume has some spicy notes added, which I think would appeal to a fan of oriental fragrances.
There is a strong ginger note and the addition of a pimento perfume note. Pimento leaf is an unusual scent which is a combination of cloves, pepper, juniper berries and a hint of cinnamon.
This is a strong perfume which would be great for the winter or perhaps evenings if you are looking for a spicy nighttime scent.
Givenchy L’interdit Body Products
There are plenty of Givenchy L’interdit body products which can be used to layer the fragrance. They all have the original Givenchy L’interdit Eau de Parfum scent but can be used with any of the different flankers.
Rooney Mara for Givenchy L’interdit Campaign
Rooney Mara was chosen to be the face of the new Givenchy L’interdit when it launched in 2019. She has featured on the advertisements for all the Givenchy L’interdit perfumes since.
