Yves Saint Laurent Libre Perfume Review & Comparison

YSL Libre
YSL Libre perfume range

YSL Libre has only been out for a few years but it quickly became a best seller and well-known scent. With Dua Lipa as the face of the fragrance, its yellow and black advertising campaign is hard to miss. This article explains the three different scents in the YSL Libre perfume range.

YSL Libre Eau de Parfum

Released in 1999, YSL Libre Eau de Parfum was the first in the range to be released.

It’s best described as a lavender floral fragrance; the floral notes being orange blossom and jasmine.

With lavender as the main note I find YSL Libre has quite a calming feminine feel to it. Lavender is often used to help people sleep or in bath products.

Orange blossom and jasmine are both quite strong floral notes so they give the fragrance a good body and help it last.

I think YSL Libre Eau de Parfum is a good ‘every day’ scent suitable for any occasion really. It’s feminine without being sweet or overpowering.

For 2021 a new collector edition has been released with a limited edition Libre bottle.

YSL Libre Intense

YSL Libre Intense takes the lavender, jasmine and orange blossom of the original and adds tonka bean and vanilla to create a sexier and warmer fragrance.

Tonka bean is a great fragrance note because it helps a perfume last, its super warming and comforting, and it helps take the sweetness out of the vanilla.

For me, this is an evening or autumn/winter scent.

Perhaps one could wear the original YSL Libre during the day then layer this on for the evening.

It is also better for lasting than the original as it’s a more concentrated intense formula.

YSL Libre Eau de Toilette

YSL Libre Eau de Toilette is my personal favourite in the YSL perfume range.

The lavender is still included in the scent mix but it’s not as dominant as it is in the other versions of YSL Libre.

Instead the orange blossom is allowed to be the star of the show, and this is supported by a fresh mandarin orange and bergamot.

This is definitely a day time scent, and probably best for spring/summer.

It’s fresher and more care-free than the other two in the range.

I’m a sucker for oranger blossom so I think that’s why it’s my favourite!

It is an Eau de Toilette though so don’t expect it to last more than 3/4 hours.

Dua Lipa for YSL Libre

Dua Lip has been the face of YSL Libre since it’s release, shooting different campaigns for the three releases.
