You might often hear fragrance reviewers or fans refer to ‘Green’ fragrances and I’m conscious that its assumed that the listener or reader knows what is meant by ‘Green’. Essentially, the term ‘Green’ is referring to any fragrance which has the mossy, grassy scent of nature. Often different leaves and even Ivy are used to create ‘Green’ fragrances, as well as Galbanum and Oakmoss. This article outlines the best ‘Green’ perfumes and links to where you can get them.

Chanel No 19
Chanel No 19 is the first fragrance which comes to my mind when I think of ‘Green’ perfume. For me, Chanel No 19 evokes the scent of walking through freshly fallen leaves in the autumn. A citrus opening reveals a floral heart of Narciso and Iris; the scent of the green stems is very much present, not just that of the flowers. A base of Moss and Leather add depth and longevity to the fragrance. Chanel No 19 is clean, super ‘Green’ and classy. There is no sweetness or innocence to it, it’s very much something a strong and confident woman would wear.
Jo Malone London White Moss & Snowdrop
White Moss & Snowdrop is one of Jo Malone London’s greenest scents. It has a warm Moss base with a ‘Green’ and citrus heart; created by Petitgrain, Neroli and of course Snowdrops. The Moss is very much the most dominant of the fragrance notes and creates a natural earthiness. I think if you’re looking for a ‘Green’ fragrance which has that real outdoors, natural feel then Jo Malone London White Moss & Snowdrop could be your best option.
Hermés Un Jardin Sur Le Toit
https://rstyle.me/cz-n/g4i8erc2uifHermés Un Jardin Sur Le Toit AKA a Garden On The Roof is a really uplifting ‘Green’ fragrance which essentially smells just like freshly mown grass. It doesn’t feel mossy or earthy like many ‘Green’ perfumes do, instead it’s a clean ‘Green’ fragrance. Un Jardin Sur Le Toit is a unisex scent which I recommend for Spring and Summer.
Penhaligon’s The Revenge Of Lady Blanche
British fragrance brand Penhaligon’s have a number of classic feminine scents. The Revenge Of Lady Blanche is a slightly powdery, ‘Green’ floral fragrance which has similarities with Chanel No19. A bouquet of Hyacinth, Iris and Narcissus create a traditional scent which reminds me of what I imagine a Victorian Lady would wear.
Commodity Moss
Niche fragrance brand Commodity have a range of fragrance each of which comes in three versions. Their Moss fragrance is one of the most popular. It’s essentially a tribute to the Oakmoss fragrance note so its quite an earthy ‘Green’. Orange Blossom and Petitgrain add lightness which make the scent suitable for men and women. Annick Goutal Heure Exquise
Annick Goutal is a niche French fragrance house. Their Heure Exquise is a strong Galbanum fragrance which reminds me of the scent of the bushes on the floor of a forest. Galbanum can be a bit harsh at first but in Heure Exquise it settled down and reveals an Iris and Hyacinth heart.
