Empress by SOKI LONDON is the first fragrance from perfume enthusiast and YouTube influencer Sophie King.

Empress embodies a bold and vivacious woman with a floral heart revealing the notes of Moroccan rose and peony, with additional hints of patchouli, toffee and pear. Empress was formulated by blending aromatic oils from Italy, Egypt and Indonesia with top notes of wild berries and pear, a blooming heart of rose, peony and green accord with a woody base of patchouli, toffee and a unique layer of popcorn.

How has Empress been made?
Sophie was often disappointed with the sillage of popular, designer fragrances. Knowing other people experience similar frustrations, she decided to create a solution and launch her own fragrance. It is important to Sophie that Empress can be enjoyed by everyone, from fragrance fans to complete novices. The fragrance is blended to have an exceptional lasting power that rivals premium brands, at an accessible price.
Lifting the lid on the perfume industry is not easy. Sophie’s years of industry experience meant that she was in a strong position to select a team to bring Empress to life. Sophie’s research led her to collaborate with Ruth Mastenbroek, a classically trained perfumer with a degree in Chemistry from Oxford University and former President of the British Society of Perfumers who has developed scents with Jo Malone. Ruth’s passion and talent for scent compliments Sophie’s and together they created a scent that captures the essence of what it is to be an Empress.
Harnessing the power of her online presence, the SOKI LONDON community has provided collective confidence during the creation and funding process. Through surveys, feedback and interacting with her community, Sophie was able to incorporate their ideas and feedback to make Empress a truly niche yet inclusive fragrance.
The initial funding for Empress came through a successful Kickstarter campaign which reached its target in June 2022.

“I wanted to create a bottle that sits on your dressing table that you look at every day. Something special, beautiful and intricate. I’ve always loved stars and celestial designs. I remember having glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling in my childhood bedroom and the custom design of the cap takes me to that place of childhood wonderment. Is Empress by SOKI LONDON a Miss Dior Cherie dupe?
Miss Dior Cherie was not only iconic, but it was also my favourite perfume. When it was discontinued and replaced by Miss Dior I was so gutted and I know lots of other people who were too! Miss Dior Cherie had a unique fragrance; a warm Popcorn note, alongside sweet fruits and florals which were much stronger than most of the fruity floral scents we see released today.
I had long dreamt of creating my own fragrances and perfume brand. It had always been in my mind that I’d like to recreate something similar to Miss Dior Cherie because now, over a decade since it was discontinued, I still miss it. So when it came to creating Empress, my first fragrance, it felt natural to design a perfume inspired by Miss Dior Cherie.
So to sum up, I guess yes, Empress is as close to a Miss Dior Cherie dupe as you will find today. I hope it makes everyone who remembers the iconic fragrance smile, evoking fond memories of the early 2000s with that warm popcorn note.
