Maison Margiela have been releasing perfumes in their Replica range since 2012. A few years ago they were purchased by L’Oreal and some would argue that their releases since the sale haven’t had the same uniqueness as the originals. The idea behind Maison Margiela Replica perfumes is that they literally replicate real life scents. I have to say, for the most part, this is achieved. In particular, I find Bubble Bath, Jazz Club, Sailing Day, By The Fireplace and the now discontinued Lipstick On smell exactly like the scent they are replicating. Here is my run-down and review of each of the Replica perfumes.

Under The Stars
2023 sees the release of Replica Under The Stars, a fragrance inspired by the deserts of Namibia. This is one of the stronger Replica fragrances in my view, with a heavy oud note accompanied by a deep leather accord. Personally, I think this fragrance leans more towards a male than a female fragrance but its ideal for leather perfume lovers! The lasting power is excellent and you only need a couple of sprays to get plenty of scent.
On A Date
Replica On A Date is a very classic feminine fragrance. It evokes the scent of the Taif Rose which grows in the south of France; this type of rose has an oriental feeling to it. Oakmoss and patchouli add to the warm, oriental feeling in this fragrance. Geranium and pink pepper create a slightly aromatic undertone as well. Overall, I’m impressed with the projection and lasting power of Replica On A Date; its an Eau de Toilette but I think it performs like an Eau de Parfum. The patchouli base is quite strong so I recommend this for patchouli fragrance fans!
When The Rain Stops
Maison Margiela Replica When The Rain Stops is a fresh, watery ozonic scent. Unfortunately, When The Rain Stops doesn’t smell like petrichor (the scent just after the rain has stopped). Instead the fragrance reminds me of a clean ‘just washed’ feeling whilst at the same time the scent of the mountains. I do however, have an article on the best perfumes which smell like rain.
They have used a Pine tree scent combined with Moss; these notes remind me of the outdoors, perhaps a forest at a high altitude.
There is a hint of a watery rose scent but When The Rain Stops is by no means feminine. The clean watery note is the primary scent and for me this is slightly more masculine than feminine.
Matcha Meditation
Maison Margiela Replica Matcha Meditation creates a similar scent to that of a creamy matcha latte.
Initially, a Green Tea note opens the fragrance, made fresh by mixing it with Bergamot and Mandarin Orange. The top note is soon followed by deeper notes of Mate, Moss, Jasmine and finally a White Chocolate note.
The White Chocolate creates the creamy sweetness of the milk in a matcha latte.
Matcha Meditation is sort of calming with its mossy green tones, but the sweetness of the White Chocolate note creates a more cosy vibe than calming vibe in my view.
Autumn Vibes
Maison Margiela Replica Autumn Vibes was released in 2020. As the name would suggest, the scent evokes the feeling of the Fall time (called Autumn in the UK) through its use of woody notes.
Personally, I found the Cedar note to be the dominant scent, supported by Cardamon and a Mossy perfume note.
Although Autumn Vibes is an Eau de Toilette, I found it performed well and lasts for many hours.
This type of scent is typical of a man’s fragrance, though it would absolutely be suitable for a lady who liked woody perfumes. If you are looking for an Fall fragrance then check out my article on the Best Autumn Perfumes.
Bubble Bath
Maison Margiela Replica Bubble Bath literally smells just like a bubble bath. I don’t know how they get these scent so close to the real thing, but this is one of their best examples for sure.
Often fragrances inspired by the bathroom tend to be very clean smelling. Replica Bubble Bath instead focuses on the soapy scent which all bubble bath liquids seems to have. It uses Coconut for warmth and Lavender for cosiness. Along with Rose, Jasmine and Patchouli, the fragrance does feel quite feminine and also incredibly relaxing.
I’d recommend this for anyone who perhaps doesn’t have a bath but wants to get that chilled-out vibes which a bath evokes.
Whispers In The Library
Maison Margiela Replica Whispers In The Library is what I imagine the Hogwarts library would smell like! In addition to the woody ‘book’ smell, there is a vanilla note which reminds me of the leather binding on old books and the glue which holds them together. It also has a hint of what could be an old candle used to light the ancient library.
Whispers In The Library is comforting, classic and very unisex. If you’ve ever spent time in an old library, perhaps at college or university, then this will certainly take you back.
Springtime In The Park
Maison Margiela Replica Springtime In The Park is one of the most feminine fragrances in the Replica perfume range. It evokes the feeling of a spring morning walking through a park through a Lily-Of-The-Valley fragrance note combined with a fresh Pear.
I find Springtime In The Park is fresh and light and lasts an hour or so. I’d recommend wearing this inside where the fragrance will be more noticeable.
Its definitely a daytime scent and ideal for the spring (as the name suggests!).
Coffee Break
Maison Margiela Replica Coffee Break isn’t simply a coffee fragrance as you might expect.
The main note in Coffee Break is actually Lavender; so the fragrance focuses more on the ‘break’ than the ‘coffee’.
Lavender is calming and in Coffee Break quite strong. It’s accompanied by a milky tone with a hint of vanilla and coffee. Imagine a vanilla latte next to a lavender bush.
Maison Margiela Replica Coffee Break is definitely a unisex fragrance, it also has good lasting power and can be relied on for compliments.
Under The Lemon Tree
Maison Margiela Replica Under The Lemon Tree isn’t just a simple fresh lemon scent. The lemon vibe is created through Petitgrain and Lime, which create a green slightly aromatic lemon which is initially sharp.
The perfume also really focuses on the ‘tree’ element with Mate, Coriander and Cardamon.
Overall, Under The Lemon Tree is an aromatic lemon scent which is super unisex. The woody and green notes in the fragrance mix last the longest and so after an hour or so the lemon vibe has faded and the scent becomes a gentle green perfume.

Sailing Day
I’ve been sailing a few times in my life, and I have to say that Maison Margiela Replica Sailing Day really does replicate the smell of the ocean as you sail through it.
Sailing Day achieves this through the use of salty and watery notes, as well as a hint of seaweed and drift wood!
The perfume could be worn by men or women but personally I find after a while it fades to become a subtle woody fragrance which I find quite manly.
Music Festival
Maison Margiela Replica Music Festival is an interesting fragrance which unusually majors on a Cannabis fragrance note. It comes across as sweet and oily with an Apple undertone, alongside strong Violet and Patchouli notes.
In addition, the use of Incense and Tobacco blend with the other notes to really create the kind of smell you’d expect to cover your hair and clothes the day after a music festival.
Maison Margiela Replica Music Festival performs well and can last for days on clothing!
Lipstick On
Maison Margiela Replica Lipstick On is discontinued now and is pretty hard to find online.
The scent does smell just like lipstick; it’s that feminine scent which you also get from eyeshadow and even hairspray.

By The Fireplace
It can be quite difficult to find a real fireplace these days, I was lucky enough to grow up with one for a few years and I remember the scent distinctly.
Maison Margiela Replica By The Fireplace captures the scent of an open fire through the use of Chestnut, Wood, Balm, Juniper and Clove perfume notes.
It definitely feels like a Christmas and Winter perfume to me; I’m not sure I’d wear this in the Summer.
Traditionally, this kind of woody and smoky scent would be worn by men, but I think this would be nice for a woman at Christmas (my article on the best Christmas perfumes), and it could easily be layered with something more feminine.
At The Barbers
In what I think is a very male fragrance Maison Margiela have created the scent of male aftershave, hair products and shaving cream with Replica At The Barbers.
The main note is Lavender, which is very common in male fragrances. This is accompanied by Rosemary, Bitter Orange, Basil and a musky Leather.
To me Maison Margiela Replica At The Barbers feels like the kind of scent I’ve smelt before. For a man I’d recommend By The Fireplace, Jazz Club or Whispers In The Library over At The Barbers.
Lazy Sunday Morning
Maison Margiela Replica Lazy Sunday Morning is exactly what it says it is. This is a scent for fans of clean cotton and freshly laundered sheets.
This calming and homely scent is created with plenty of a musk perfume note.
In addition, there is a fresh Rose scent and a Patchouli undertone which tends to linger after the Rose has faded. We also see Lily-of-the-Valley, Iris and Orange Blossom in the mix; which create the type of Laundry detergent scent you get from fresh sheets.
Although not strong, Maison Margiela Replica Lazy Sunday Morning does last for a fair few hours.
Jazz Club
I don’t think I’ve been to many Jazz Clubs, but this fragrance is exactly what I’d expect them to smell like.
Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club creates the feeling of walking down stairs into an underground bar where people have been smoking for hours. The patrons are drinking rum and wearing expensive aftershave.
There is a Vanilla fragrance note in Jazz Club which adds a slightly sweet undertone, reminiscent of a cocktail, and which also brings out a sweet undertone from the Tobacco note.
Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club feels quite male to me, though I can imagine it would be quite sexy on a woman for a date night.
Flower Market
Maison Margiela Replica Flower Market is one of the most feminine scents in the Replica perfume range.
The scent reminds me of the smell you get when you walk into a flower shop; its the green scent of the freshly cut stems mixed with the water all around, and of course the flower petals.
This is a clean green bouquet, made-up of Feesia and Tuberose, Rose and Jasmine. A hint of Peach is added to add to the femininity of the fragrance.
I highly recommend Flower Market for floral fans, Spring time and for layering over other scents to add a fresh floral vibe.
Beach Walk
One of my favourites from the range is Maison Marginal Replica Beach Walk.
I think the fragrance evokes the feeling of a tropical beach because the main note for me is Coconut.
Beach Walk genuinely captures the ‘smell’ of walking on white sands, with the heat of the sun on your sunscreen covered skin while the salty sea tickles your toes.
It’s calming and soothing while being fun and summery.
The Coconut note helps Beach Walk with longevity, I find it lasts about four hours; which is good for an Eau de Toilette.
