Although perhaps less heavily advertised than Armani’s Si and My Way fragrances, Giorgio Armani Gioia is a collection of fresh and uplifting fragrances. At the moment there are five other fragrances in the Gioia perfume line in addition to the original Acqua di Gioia, this article explains the difference between them and what each smells like.

In the US the range can be found at Ulta and Armani Beauty, and discontinued fragrances at Walmart. In Canada Sephora stocks the range. In the UK The Fragrance Shop and LOOKFANTASTIC (21% off with code LFTFSOKI) are stockists.

Acqua di Gioia

Acqua di Gioia is a classic fresh summer scent. It’s characterised by lemon zest and mint fragrance notes which are exactly what you need on a hot summer day.

There are hints of jasmine, peony and cedar notes but predominantly Acqua di Gioia is all about that fresh green lemon.

Although Acqua di Gioia is an Eau de Parfum it is light and so would be best work during the day and in spring/summer.

Air di Gioia

Air di Gioia reminds me of the bracing sea air we get in Cornwall here in the UK.

A salty, mossy cypress is the main fragrance note to my nose. It’s clean, green and refreshing. This isn’t a tropical sea scent, it’s very much a cooler sea air.

Again, Air di Gioia is refreshing with a natural and slightly aromatic vibe. I think Air di Gioia is slightly stronger than Acqua di Gioia and could also be worn in the cooler months.

Sun di Gioia

Giorgio Armani Sun Di Gioia is a radiant and uplifting fragrance that reminds me of the joy of basking in the sun. It opens with bergamot and freesia and the frangipani and ylang-ylang notes making it feel tropical, evoking warm summer days. The base of coconut milk and vanilla adds a creamy and comforting feeling. Sun Di Gioia is a perfect companion for sunny escapades and beach vacations. Its moderate longevity ensures a lasting and joyful experience.

Sky di Gioia

Sky di Gioia is a classic peony, rose and lychee fragrance similar to Angel Nova Eau de Toilette (my article on the Angel Nova perfume range).

The perfume is pretty and innocent but I find its the lightest of the Gioia range and despite being an Eau de Parfum it performs more like an Eau de Toilette.

I recommend Sky di Gioia for someone looking for a light, girly scent which is inoffensive. It would be ideal for a young girl and could be worn to school.

Light di Gioia

Although the yellow branding and name indicate sunshine, there are no solar notes in Light di Gioia. Instead this is a white floral scent with plenty of jasmine and gardenia. It reminds me of Armani My Way and other similar white floral scents which have become very popular in recent years.

I find Light di Gioia to be quite strong and longer lasting than some of the fresher fragrances in the range.

Light di Gioia could be worn at any time of day or year.

Ocean di Gioia

Personally, I think Ocean di Gioia would be better named as Lake di Gioia, simply because it has so many green notes.

Ocean di Gioia is a freshly mown grass scent which is uplifting and unisex. Lily of the Valley is the other main note alongside water jasmine.

I love the fresh green vibe of Ocean di Gioia, its quite unusual and perfect for humid weather.

Terra di Gioia

Terra di Gioia is the sweetest in the Gioia perfume range. The main note is a warm almond blossom which provides both the sweetness and an amber feeling to the fragrance. An amberwood and jasmine help the fragrance last and provide depth.

I think Terra di Gioia is the only one in the range which I’d recommend for night time, though it would be fine for during the day if you like sweeter scents.

Are there samples available to try? My favorite is “Gio” which is long gone unfortunately.

Hi Cathy, ah yes I remember Gio! There probably won’t be samples these days as they tend to only make them for new releases 🙁 But you could try eBay?
